Becoming the Community Evangelist for This Week in Django

I'm excited to announce that I will be joining the This Week In Django (TWiD) team as Community Evangelist. What does this mean? Michael and Brian officially announced my addition on this past week's TWiD podcast. What the heck is a Community Evangelist? Well, it could mean a lot of things actually.

I enjoy the community side of the things — meeting new people, writing about things I'm interested in, helping other people get excited about something, educating others, educating myself, and creating a passionate audience around something others and myself believe in. Jeremiah Owyang defined it in a blog post not too long ago titled "Understanding the Community/Evangelist Role, and profiles of a few of my Favorite Folks" .

Owyang's definition defines the role in the context of a company. TWiD Isn't a company, but it is a brand. Michael and Brian are intelligent, creative guys who are very passionate about all things django. They spend a lot of time creating each week's podcast. They do it for the love of the subject matter. They believe django is not just a good thing for themselves but for others and they like spreading the word about it, talking to people about it, and just geeking out on all things django. Now that's cool.

So where do I fit in? My goal is to continue the research aspect you see here on howiworkdaily where I'm posting about new projects and django related items, as well as other technical related subjects. I'll be coordinating the guest hosts, as well as collaboratig with Brian and Michael on the weekly show notes, and geneating new, creative ways to extend the TWiD brand beyond the podcast. We want to bring TWiD to a larger audience and get the community more involved in the show as well. Please feel free to email me anything and all things you feel we'd be interested in. And you'll probably see/hear me on the show from time to time as well.

Finally, I'll still be doing my weekly (trying) callcasts you see here on HIWD. It is my goal to move my content here over to a more django focused domain name. I'll keep you posted when that migration occurs.

A little teaser here as well ... there's a lot of interesting brain storming going on over in TWiD world. I think the community will see some new and exciting releases from the team in the near future.
